How to avoid synthetic emeralds

How to avoid buying fake or synthetic emeralds.

Even though there are synthetic emeralds manufactured, they are not generally of gem size and are mainly used for industry purposes. Even so there are an abundance of man-made stones, which appear of excellent quality and even compare with some emeralds in their beauty. Yet, the sole way to avoid the trouble is to trade simply with a single emerald merchant so that you are sure that every stone is genuine and with no flaws.

Another way is to have a well known laboratory (such as the GIA, AGL, AGTA, GRS or Gubelin) report and certificate and not the local jeweler if you’re in a remote country.

Some of the newest synthetics in the marketplace are very difficult to distinguish from the genuine gemstones as they have the same chemical, optical and physical properties.
